The Grade 9 students continued their Taipei adventure and had a wonderful Day 5. The day began at a Wetland Conservation where the students worked ambitiously to help minimize an invasive species of plant that is disrupting the ecosystem. Without hesitation, the students jumped out of their comfort zone and into the muddy wetlands in order to help preserve the Taipei biodiversity. I believe the pictures say it all, our students were ‘naturals’. Along the journey, the students encountered endearing wildlife including turtles, frogs, fish, snails, insects, and birds.
Afterward, we strapped on our hiking gear and ventured up Elephant Mountain to take in the panoramic views of the Taipei skyline including the impressive Taipei 101. Students reflected and collaborated on their exploration thus far and how we can use our Taipei experiences to help us better understand the importance of culture, teamwork, and community.
During the evening the real fun began as the group toured the streets of the city en route to a local night market. Students tried a wide range of cultural food including meat skewers, kimchi dumplings, bacon wrapped vegetables, seafood, and chicken feet.
Day 5 had it all; education, service, activity, enjoyment, community, and of course…some bubble tea!
