After a previously balanced day, group three was looking forward to an energy-filled bike riding and kayaking session. Unfortunately, this did not happen because of the high pollution levels, which was disappointing to hear, but they kept a positive mindset on the day, excited to see what the compromised day would be filled with. These activities consisted of a Thai Cooking Class, Team Building, and Arts & Crafts.
With the help and guidance of two nice chefs, group three participated in a Thai cooking class where they made an appetizer, an entrée, and dessert. The appetizer was a broth which included glass noodles and meatballs; the entrée was the creation of Thai style curry chicken that was served with bean rice. The dessert was a dish that included coconut milk, natural Pandan flavouring, and banana. The students thought this was a memorable meal since they were the chefs themselves and it was a unique flavour palette that isn’t found often in Macau.
Secondly, group three participated in a team building activity, where they then separated into four teams, and participated in a mini competition revolving around a lemon. The students took a short multiple choice quiz that determined the order of which team got to pick the materials first to create their lemon protection barricade. Once they completed their fortress, the leader picked out different events that would occur to the lemon, such as a leap of faith, where teams would jump on a box and hope it’s not theirs. All in all, this was pretty fun, and it was entertaining to see the groups’ reactions to when their lemon was smashed. It was also surprising to see a group’s lemon still in tact even after getting hit multiple times with a stick.
Lastly, the students participating in an arts and crafts session, which was made up of bracelet/necklace making and umbrella painting. It was relaxing and comforting to end the day around a circle of friends, picking out colours of beads to thread into their bracelets. Then, when it was time to paint umbrellas, the students were fascinated on how easy the painting instructor made it look, and she also painted it in a recognisable Thai art style.
Overall, the day was quite eventful with changes along the way, but it was pretty relaxing to stay on campus, and hopefully tomorrow group three can stick to the planned schedule.
