Today we woke up at 8:00 AM and started the day off with some appetising breakfast. After that we got on a bus and headed towards the location of our wetland tour, soon after, we got off and headed towards the river where we put on lifejackets and got on boats made of bamboo that looked like coconut shells! Turns out, that wasn’t the only surprising part. The boats started rocking back and forth and it became hard to stay still. We quickly got off when the “coconut” stopped at a big boat where we discovered that we were going to go fishing with fishermen! All of us took turns throwing a net out to sea and seeing if we were lucky enough to catch a fish. Unfortunately in my group no one did. We got back and did a traditional dance, wearing orange and yellow headpieces and gowns. Afterwards they showed us a special performance of the tour guides spinning on the basket boats! What we didn’t know was that we were also going to be enjoying a ride on these boats. We rode the basket boats out to the middle of the river where they told us a story about the American war. On the way back they made us some amazing origami out of the palm leaves! The tour guides dropped us off right at a beach where we could throw some fishing nets, play with some dogs, chickens and pigs, or play in the sand. Right after, we went onto the ship and ate lunch. Afterwards it was time for us to go down to the town! We shopped and ate and walked around exploring some of the Vietnam cultures. We then got on a bus and went to a cooking class. There we made Chicken, Papaya Salad, and spring rolls. They also gave us a cutting demonstration. We ate dinner and Lauren and I saw some locals playing the guitar so we asked if we could play too! We both enjoyed the experience of performing but wished we had some practice time. We got back to the hotel and went swimming! Although not everyone went in the pool, we did have a great time! I am so looking forward to tomorrow!
