Today we met with the representatives of the Youth Development Centre. Like most things in Bhutan, they are way ahead of the game in terms of empowering young leaders to take on volunteer opportunities. We were their first major group to visit and we really were treated like foreign dignitaries. Students raised some important points and two students asked me afterward, “How can I set up an exchange so I can return to Bhutan to do some volunteer work?” This is rewarding.

Each student was greeted with Chai Masala tea

We were also served traditional Bhutanese snacks

Next, our guides managed to please two groups! Some students went to an art gallery and created their own art with Ms. Sonmez and Wang Laoshi. Others went to try on some traditional clothing in town at a local tailor.

We drove back to Paro with a bit of sadness at leaving Thimphu. We had lunch in Paro town and students explored the little village with the snow-capped peaks in the background.

That’s a good stretch

Happy school’s out for the day?

Ummmm…ok

When I looked inside…there was only sour smelling milk..
Lastly, we checked into our final hotel (resort). We were all amazed. We are perched on the side of a mountain with an amazing view and wonderful accommodations. Truly, if any families want to visit Bhutan, I suggest our tour provider. They have pulled out all the stops.
After a delicious buffet, with the warmth of a wood stove, we are now getting some sleep. It’s an early morning tomorrow with our big hike awaiting us. We are hoping for good weather for our climb to the Tiger’s Nest! Wish us luck!
That’s quite impressive and encouraging. Thank you for showing the students this wonderful country!
