Indonesia 2018

News from BauBau!

  Bau Bau, Indonesia

Posted March 14, 2018 by Dennis Stuebing

Sent from Lydia Mak (via WeChat):

The theme of the last couple of days has been marine conservation. We have been learning about the importance of coral reefs, human impact on these systems and what they are doing here at Operation Wallacea to help with conservation efforts. During our dives, it’s been easy to see the negative impact humans have had on the area including blast fishing destroying the coral reefs. Many of the students have even taken to picking up trash during our dives! This part of the Coral Reef Ecology course has really had an impact on them.

The Open Water and Advanced Open Water students only have one dive left tomorrow and then they are full certified. The new divers really seem to be enjoying the experience with many even voicing that diving may be a passion in the making!

Tomorrow we will be heading out for a day on Snake Island. More diving and a beach clean up to look forward to!
