Group 1 had a day of experience is to say the least.
Today we started off with our service activity with FORRU ( Forest Regeneration Unit). We learned the past of deforestation in Northern Thailand to gain more agricultural land. The mountain we were on isĀ now a National park and is being regenerated in to its natural state. After the lesson we took a walk in the forest to understand about the trees. Many student “loved” all the bugs that come with the forest. But with teamwork we were able to make it over the hurdles of fallen trees and steeper slopes. Our final task was to make saplings that will be planted during the rainy season. The students had to pack the soil mixture into a bag and add in a seedling. Now the baby trees have more room to grow stronger roots.
In the afternoon Mrs Alm’s group went rock wall climbing. Everyone was able to try climbing and did a great job. Sadly no one got the prize Mrs. Alm offered if they were able to complete the challenge wall.
Today it was Ms. Zebrowska’s group’s turn to learn the basics of Thai language. We took turns saying hello, my name is…, and thank you in Thai. We also got to wear and pose in beautiful traditional Thai clothes.
After dinner, we created colorful Lanna flags and painted umbrellas with flower, elephant and butterfly motifs.
