For our first day on the ski hills here in Korea, there was much nerves and much excitement. For many of our students, it was their first time trying skiing or snowboard and there was plenty to look forward to.
The morning started off with lessons for our beginner skiers and snowboarders. The more experienced riders among us went through the training exercises more quickly and headed off the explore more challenging courses of their own accord. Things didn’t start off very quickly for some of our new winter sports participants but with the expert advise of the instructors, relentless encouragement from our teacher chaperones, and repeated trials from driven students, all persevered and were able to learn the basics of moving around on the snow, starting, stopping, and turning.
By the afternoon, all our students were able to make an attempt down a real hill. While not all made it through without wiping out, this didn’t deter any of our students from getting back on their feet or jumping back onto the next available gondola or chairlift to go for another run down the slope. If nothing else by the end of the first day of skiing and snowboarding, our students had build up some confidence and a determination to continue to improve over the remaining of the days we have skiing and snowboarding.
Tired from a long first day filled with lots of learning through trial and error, our group returned back to the hotel ready for a shower and a reset and in some cases a quick nap before dinner. Dinner was had at the hotel’s extravagant buffet restaurant where our students feasted on fresh seafood and many delicious cuts of meat from the grill station amongst many other food options. Filled up on food and tired from a day on the snow, many students have already fallen into a deep slumber. They’ll awake tomorrow for a second day of adventures in the snow.
Check back tomorrow to see how our students are progressing.
