Greetings once again from the slopes in Korea. We were back at it on the hills today. Picking up where we left off from the day before, we resumed our training and started working some of our students on longer and tougher courses. By our second day on the slopes, all of our skiers and snowboarders had managed to pick up the basics of starting and stopping on the course and could progress down the beginner hills in a safe and relatively controlled manner.
While most certainly progressed and improved substantially from the first day, today the focus turned towards having the new snow sport participants improve on their technique. Carving, where skiers and boarders cut back and forth laterally as they progress down the course, was the main technique that tested the skills and patience of many of our students. Having developed a taste for being on the trails, some of our students have been very eager to progress up to higher points on the mountain and challenge themselves with more difficult runs. Many however have not yet shown the development of consistent enough carving skills to maintain their speed and control over these more advanced runs. Those students who have mastered carving were enjoying some of the most scenic trails that run down from the top of the mountain.
So despite the aches and general tiredness, our skiers and snowboarders are excited for another day to begin so that they can get another opportunity to continue to refine their skills and confront some of the more challenging slopes.
Come back tomorrow to find out how we did.
