Today was not the start that we were hoping for as a fairly strong Nor’Easter made it’s way through the US Northeast. This storm brought a lot of snow and cold winds that essentially shut down the entire city, putting a pretty significant damper on our day one itinerary. Thankfully the students were troopers and understood that circumstances, though frustrating, were out of our control. Some even braved the cold to experience snow for the first time!
After the storm died down, we were able to make our way out of the hotel into Jersey City for lunch at a natural food restaurant for burgers and smoothies. Once everyone had their fill of healthy food we moved on to the only shopping that was open – Target (or Tar’jay as the fancy folks would call it). We pretty much had the entire store to ourselves and everyone enjoyed exploring all that the massive store had to offer. Many great deals were found and enjoyed by all!
After the shopping excursion was completed, we made our way back to the hotel to relax and enjoy some pizza for dinner. It may not have been quite how we envisioned our first day, but when the weather gave us lemons, we managed to make a decent batch of lemonade! Now to get a good night’s sleep (and shake off the jetlag) in preparation for our first real day in the Big Apple tomorrow!
