Happy St. patrick’s Day everyone!
The students began their day with a tour of the neighbouring Grand Central Station. Many jaws dropped when they saw the magnificent architecture of this iconic building and many couldn’t help but notice how the real GCS looked exactly like the one portrayed in the movie Madagascar.
Afterwards we all headed out to Times Square to see the sights and take a look at some of the unique stores that could only be found in a place like this. From H & M to M & Ms, lots of souvenirs were purchased!
In the afternoon, we prepped for the conference to finally begin. Thankfully our hotel was only a few blocks from the United Nations Headquarters and we enjoyed a nice, brisk walk en route to the venue. There was quite a lineup of students to get into the building and that’s when it first hit us at how major of an event this would be.
Once inside, we gathered in the legendary General Assembly for the opening ceremonies. While the ceremonies may have a bit dry, the importance of the venue was not lost on the students and many expressed how excited they were to be there.
Tomorrow, we begin bright and early with our first true day of debate and collaboration in the conference. This is what we’ve been waiting for and we’re ready!
