The Kimchi Kids Take On Sea-LaLa and Nanta

Seoul, South Korea

Posted March 11, 2014 by Sandra Kuipers

Day 3 started with some very sleepy kids in the morning. It must have been a late night for a lot of them!

Our first stop today was Kimchi school! During the ride over, our tour guide Sandy, entertained us with the history of kimchi and how kimchi causes Koreans to break wind and make the big thing in the toilet! Mr. Dalke was not impressed!

We pulled into the parking lot where there were already at least 8 tour buses parked there. After we all filed in, we were given a short info session on the many different types of kimchi and led to a kimchi classroom upstairs. After donning their aprons and receiving instructions, everyone tried their hand at making the traditional Korean food. All I can say is that the students that typically rush through their school work, did exactly the same thing when making kimchi

! All the kimchi was bagged and donated to a local church, but the school served us some sample platters with a variety of kimchi to test our palettes. Following the kimchi, we were herded downstairs to dress in traditional Korean clothing. There were some good laughs to be had, but everyone looked great and enjoyed the experience.

Next up was Sea-LaLa, an indoor waterpark and spa combination. The group swam, played cards, used the various saunas and steam rooms, and just had a great afternoon with each other. As you can see in the photos, everyone had to wear the standard issue of baby blue and white.

The Nanta show was our last activity for the day and it did not disappoint. It was a lively and energetic show that featured a storyline following a restaurant kitchen and a doofus nephew. The performers were awesome using kitchen utensils such as pots, knives, cutting boards etc. as musical instruments. Fused with the music was an element of comedy that coaxed laughter out of the entire audience no matter what age they were. Highlights included audience participation where Sam Tam, Claudia San, Iris Lei and Kenson Tong were brought up on stage. Actually, Kenson married another female audience member! It was a blast.

One thing we’ve noticed here is the crazy amount of coffee shops! It appears that they have a love affair with Juan Valdez as there are at least 3-4 coffee shops on each city block! No wonder they’re up all night in Seoul!
