Macao 2: Local CAS Program

Our last evening in Cambodia

Krong Siem Reap, Cambodia

Posted March 12, 2014 by Sandra Kuipers

Hi blog followers,

Our group made their final community outreach trip this afternoon to a second orphanage. This one was not quite run the same way as the first one. This orphanage was set up like a school and the kids there had classes in a special building in addition to their modest living accommodations. At this orphanage, our students helped to grow mushroom clusters. After yet another donation of our pre-prepared supplies, we detoured back to the hotel to get ready for our biking excursion.

However, our biking excursion didn’t quite go as planned. As we rode through the crowded streets, following as a big group was challenging when we were expected to share the road with people, other bikes, and a few motor vehicles. Ultimately, due to concerns for the safety and comfort for our students we decided to cut the ride short

. The kids did still enjoy the short excursion.

Dinner was a very special affair with a fancy 3 course meal at a French influenced restaurant. After dinner, as a special treat to the kids, the tour leaders and teachers treated the kids to some after dinner ice cream.

Now being back at the hotel, a large number of the kids decided to enjoy one last swim before we depart tomorrow morning. We still do have 2 more attractions to see tomorrow before we leave Cambodia. There will be one last blog entry outlining what we will see at tomorrow’s sites, after we return to Macau. It’s been a fantastic experience week trip but I’m sure many of us are ready for something a little more regular back home. See you soon!

Did you guys get a chance to eat those mushrooms? Or just helping out? Does the ice cream tastes good? Does it tastes like Macau's?

Yes, be jealous, free ice cream! I don't actually know what the mushrooms at the orphanage were for but I would assume for eating. They didn't look like any mushrooms I'd eaten before though.
