Day Three
After a lovely breakfast, we got started on the day. Our first stop was the Kremlin. We saw the outside of Putin’s office, the Cathedral of the Dormition, the Cathedral of the Annunciation, and the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael. This also brought us to the quote of the day. “They whistle three times and then they shoot”.
We then explored the Moscow Metro and some of its 250 stations. Although some of our group had problems counting the number of stops, we all made it to the right stations. We were impressed with the murals there.
We then ate a wonderful lunch and went to Red Square. We walked around St
. Basil’s Cathedral (“the most beautiful wedding cake in Russia”), the G.U.M. department store, and the Lenin Mausoleum. There was a skating rink in the middle of the square and while we were there, Tim got some well-deserved Krispy Kreme doughnuts from the guys. We then went to the 600 million dollar newly-rebuilt Church of Christ The Saviour. There was much rejoicing as people that we thought had disappeared were found on the bus.
We then explored Arbat Promenade to do some shopping and spending time with locals. After that, it was off to the train station for an overnight trip to St. Petersburg. During this train ride, there was such an animated discussion about various important issues that Ms. Picard was not able to sleep.
