Macao 2: Local CAS Program

Day 1 Continues

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Posted March 9, 2014 by Sandra Kuipers

Hello blog followers,

Our trip continued today with more exciting places to visit after a brief pit stop at the hotel in the afternoon.  The group headed out to a very scenic countryside area near the world-renowned Angkor Wat.  The greater Siem Reap area is filled with over 300 temples and our afternoon stop was at a hillside Khmer temple built in the 12th century.

After a challenging climb up the unpaved and rugged hill, most of the grade 9 group made it in time to scale to the top of the Khmer temple to watch a gorgeous blood red sunset over the Siemp Reap countryside.  The pictures here simply don’t to the scene justice. Along the way, the group ran into a wild beer-drinking monkey and a distant view of the majestic Angkor Wat where we will be visiting later in the week.

We returned back to the hotel for a hardy, appetizing dinner before getting the kids to wind down the day in their rooms.  With so many adventures already, it’s easy to believe that despite a very long day, the grade 9s are excited for another day of exploring Cambodia.

It feels like summer time in Cambodia and the weather is way better in than Macau. Does their food actually taste good?

The elephant ride looks really enjoyable. How tiring was the climb?
