Hi blog readers,
The afternoon portion of Day 2 of the Cambodia trip had the group traveling back in time to 12th century Khmer dynasty and their nearly millennial old temple structures.
The group started by taking a trip to the Ta Prohm Buddhist monastery. While that name along might not ring any bells with many of you, it is better known by it’s pop culture nickname, the “Tomb Raider” temple. It is also the picture for the cover of this blog. Our group weaved our way through the partially collapsed iconic structure. The whole group took an extended stop at The Spot to take a picture of the famous giant tree root that slithers down over one of the doorway of temple.
After a lengthy stop at Ta Prohm, we ventured down towards Angkor Thom entering through the South Gate
. Inside Angkor Thom, we headed straight for Bayon temple. Bayon temple is a towering temple unlike Ta Prohm, and our students eagerly climbed up the temple to enjoy a great view of the surrounding area.
After a long afternoon, the group was pumped to hear that we were off to a special dinner buffet that features a performance showcasing Cambodian culture. The food selection was quite impressive and everyone left stuffed full of food. The day wasn’t yet over though. After dinner, we ventured off to a Cambodian night market. The grade 9s went crazy roaming through the night market, haggling and subsequently snatching up some amazing deals. Parents, expect some neat gifts when your kids return!
Whew! Well Day 2 was definitely a very fulfilling and massively successful day. Check back tomorrow for our adventures within the fabled Angkor Wat.
