Hi Tigers sports fans!
Let’s recap today’s action for both the junior boys and girls volleyball teams:
Girls
The girls had three games today against LIS from Chengdu, YCIS from Chongqing, and HKA from Hong Kong. The girls started strong with a convincing victory over a young LIS team 2-0 (25-10, 25-10).
After a long break, the girls were back in action against YCIS. The Tigers offence was firing on all cylinders in this match. Genevieve Guimond had a big game with 4 aces and 3 kills and Emily Varga proved to be the game breaker with 3 kills and 2 momentum swinging blocks
.
The Tigers toughest match of the day was against an undefeated HKA team. This game proved to be a statement game for the girls as they wanted to prove why they were defending SCISAC champions. The team played suffocating team defence, with superb court coverage, while absolutely dismantling HKA’s serve receive formation. Nicole Krause played impressively, scoring 5 aces and 3 kills. Emily Varga and Alvina Cho chipped in with 3 kills each, while every starting hitter racked up at least one kill. Team captain Alison Tang, conducted the offence brilliantly, picking up 11 assists despite sitting for most of the second set. TIS beats HKA 25-11, 25-10.
TIS are the only remaining team in the girls draw to still be undefeated. They’ll have two more preliminary round games tomorrow versus ICA and XIS before the playoffs start.
Boys
The boys played four matches today. The boys won straight set matches against LIS and HKA. The lost a 3 set thriller against YCIS and were overcome by an experienced ICA team. The boys stand at 2 wins and 2 loses, and have one final preliminary round game against XIS before their own playoffs start.
Unfortunately, the internet has not been steady at the hotel, pictures from today will be posted later on. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s results. Go Tigers!
