Macao 2: Local CAS Program

Something Old, Something New

Zhaoqing, China

Posted November 13, 2013 by Sandra Kuipers

Due to the heavy downpour yesterday, our community service at the elderly centre unfortunately had to be canceled. Dragonfly stepped up and provided our students with an alternative cultural experience. Zhaoqing is famous for its ink stone carving and we had the privilege of going to the community hall to work with an ink stone specialist. Students created a design to carve into their very own ink stone. This will be a precious memento returning from a wonderful week.

After a plentiful and nourishing meal, students completed their third rotation of the activities. To cap off the day, students were treated to a wood fire BBQ, complete with their own grilling utensils. No BBQ would be complete without marshmallows and this gooey treat satisfied their sweet tooth.

As with any camp experience, a bonfire was in order, and the resort did not disappoint. Students were invited to sing, dance, share stories and showcase their talents. It was then off to their rooms to pack, and get a good nights sleep before the Great Race tomorrow and safe journey home.
