Good Afternoon!
It is hard to imagine school life without electricity, running water, and the other basic necessities that we take for granted at TIS.
Our students got to experience first hand how impoverished children in this area keep smiling despite having very little. Students were greeted at the school by all of the students lined-up in the lane singing for us. The grade 9’s then went to different classrooms to teach these students (aged 6-13) some basic English. It was a difficult experience for most, but near the end they had the students playing games and having fun. Students also gave a donation of shoes, school supplies, water bottles, and snacks to each student in the school. They were SO excited! As this was our 2nd year visiting Bantay Samre Primary school, there were some familiar faces

TIS Student Impressions of the school Visit:

People in the school looked very poor, and some of them were walking bare-footed. I feel lucky.

I think I am pretty lucky and have a very happy life. The experience we had today tells me about how poor people live and how they feel.

I felt very lucky studying in school with an air-conditioner. Also I was surprised with all the kids who didn’t stop smiling even though they had to stay in a hot class room with bare feet.
Afterwards, we visited a local family who explained their situation and how they live. We also gave them a donation of goods.
We headed to town for a wonderful lunch and the students are now cooling down in the pool before we head out again
