Macao 2: Local CAS Program

Day 3 – So much fun!!!

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Posted March 13, 2013 by Sandra Kuipers

We can’t believe how quickly the week is flying by. Students requested that they want experience week to be 7 – 14 days. They are having so much fun and are creating memories that will last a life time.  Here are what the students have to say about their experience today:
Kayaking was a relaxing and peaceful journey between the mountains. We learned how to return a capsized boat to its original position and we had some time to enjoy ourselves swimming and playing in the water. They gave us time to listen to the sounds of the wilderness and absorb our surroundings. It was a great workout and I had a blast. This is definitely an activity that stood out from the others and I recommend keeping it on the itinerary; it was awesome! Julian

Today we went on a 20 kilometer bike ride through breathtaking sites

Mountain Biking

. It was surprisingly very exhausting yet thrilling. We got to see the beautiful streams running through the memorable rice fields. Everyone must have had a fantastic time.   Quint

The elephants were so cute! We watched a documentary about elephants in Thailand. I found it really cruel how some of the elephants were treated badly by the trainers. They poke and beat the elephant, and even put them in a really small cage and leave them there for 3 days. Thankfully, there is a woman who was willing to give her whole life to the elephants, and it turned out that the elephant park we were at was started by her. We also fed the elephants; they were soooo cute! We fed them pineapples, watermelons, sugar canes and bananas. The elephant I was feeding hated sugar canes. It was really fun, and also an amazing experience.  Jenny L.

Visiting the Elephant Nature Park was a highlight of my Chiang Mai Experience Week trip. We had a chance to help elephants take a bath in a slow flowing river; the river was quite dirty, but it was a good experience. We needed to splash many buckets of water in order to clean the elephants. I had a fantastic time playing with the elephants.  Leo

Archery for us was one of the things that stood out for us on this trip

. We got to shoot arrows and had a competition between fellow students and teachers. We were tested on our patience and concentration and shooting arrows was not as easy as we thought. We encourage more people to try out archery and have as much fun as we did. Manuel & Mike

Today we went to kayaking, it was ok. We like the part where we just listen to the nature. We only learned how to survive on a flipping kayak, and the other remaining time was just staying on/in the lake. Then we went cycling. The road is really dangerous, only for supreme bikers. If students are only normal bikers, they are not recommended. Water and helmets are supplied. The route we biked was alright. We learned how to use the brakes correctly and it was fun to cycle. Alex K.

Tomorrow is our last day of activities. We will post again tomorrow night.  Take care everyone.

I like that you are all trying new things! As much as I know you all love math, you will learn more this week than I could ever teach you in class. Stay in the moment, be involved and take lots of pictures!
