Macao 2: Local CAS Program

First Day

Zhaoqing, China

Posted November 12, 2012 by Sandra Kuipers

The day went began as smoothly as possible getting through the border.  As we drove through the region, the students were able to identify the region and natural resources we had learned about in Social Studies.  Many were surprised at the large hillsides and fertile fields.  As we approached the resort, student could not stop commenting on how beautiful the landscape was.

The resort lies across the lake and we had to take a short boat ride to reach it. After unpacking our bags and a delicious lunch, we were able to have a meet and greet with the Dragonfly staff. Children took part in various team building activities requiring communication, delegation and respect.

After dinner, the groups came together for the Dragonfly Challenge. This consisted of a series of events designed to express student creativity and sportsmanship.  The final mystery challenge was a dance off, where Gordon was nominated by peers as the top dancer in grade 5.

After a short debrief about their day, students went to bed tired and happy, looking forward to tomorrows activities.
