Another awesome but super tiring day!!! Never did we expect this conference to be so amazing yet so exhausting.
We spent the majority of our time in a variety of workshops and our GANG groups, which are organized based on particular global issues that the students are interested in. Their goal in their GANG groups is to come up with a localized action plan that can be implemented.
We also had a chance to meet Hannah Taylor, who is the founder of the Canadian organization Ladybug Foundation. She is an impressive young lady, 16 years of age, who founded the organization when she was 6 years old because she has wanted to help the homeless people in her city. She is truly an inspirational person and we are so glad to have heard her story.
We spent the last few hours after dinner in an “emergency response simulation” in which we were given scenarios in which complex decisions had to be made in response to crisis that we may come across as students. We learned to make decision under stressful situations while considering budgets, policies, and the short and long term implication of these decisions. We are now ready to be leaders in emergency situations!
Fun anecdote: we are very well fed and may have gained many pounds in the few days that we are here. Just today, we had 4 snack breaks in addition to lunch and dinner. We had yummy snacks including chocolate doughnuts, mini pizzas, churros, cinnamon buns, nachos and salsa, and of course, lots of fresh fruits. It’s a non-stop eating fest!
