Macao 2: Local CAS Program

Day 1 GINSING

The International School Of Macao, Singapore

Posted November 8, 2012 by Sandra Kuipers

Our first day of the conference was action packed, informative and inspiring. This conference is beyond amazing. Over 800 youth have come together from 62 schools wanting to make the world a better place. Our students are networking with international students from places such as Cairo, Jakarta and Bangladesh. The motto of the conference is “Time to Act. Time to Change.”

Some highlights of the day:
1. High school students took part in a variety of excursions including: creating a green roof, visiting a wetland reserve, learning about Singapores’s water supply, visiting a biosphere foundation’s sailing ship and touring an incineration plant.
2. Middle school students spent the day at a beautiful nature park where they took part in a number of environmental activities

3. The two groups met in the late afternoon for the opening ceremony, dinner, a peace concert and visited a number of global village booths.

Here’s what the students have to say about their first day:

The opening ceremony for GINSING 2012 was a truly memorable experience. The speeches presented made me feel like I, a middle school student, can do something helpful for the environment. 🙂 – Sam.K

From the speech today, I’d learnt that you should do the things you are passionate about because the only way to work very hard and do a wonderful job, is to do something you love. Alvina 🙂

Being able to come to this conference is an honor. The experience we gained is unique and interesting. We heard a lot of inspiring speeches and were introduced to new ideas. – Scarlet

Scott Hammell and Rob Dyer were truly an inspiration and their stories are worth knowing about

Listening to all those stories really make you want to take action and help people in need! – Verena

It’s made me realize I can actually do something to change things, instead of just watching other people do it. – Marika

It was a remarkable and awesome experience that really changed my perception of nature. I never knew getting muddy and gardening for community would be so fun. As a collective, we planted more than 1400 different types of plants. Mike

Ginsing 2012 is truly one of its kind; the atmosphere and the friendly people really create a sense of acceptance into the community and I actually believe we can change the world. William

The opening ceremony was awesome. We spent the whole time laughing and being inspired.
Rachel
