After a long journey through the Thai countryside by bus, we came to the eastern Thai border town of Aranyaprathet. The town was lit up from all the markets late in the evening and the monstrosity of the Casino’s in Poi Pet, Cambodia a stones throw from the markets. We arrived in Poi Pet, Cambodia in at 6:20pm local time.
Our bus ride from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet was exactly 3 hours 23 minutes in length. (265 km)
Next we waited in an air-conditioned room with all 17 of us waiting for the express bus to Siem Reap. Finally, our bus arrived and we were on another long bus ride again.
We came across many awe inspiring sights during the evening hours. Lot’s of beside the road weddings (end of the dry season is when many traditional Khmer weddings take place.) The students were very surprised and bit in awe. In addition we saw massive grass fires burning brightly by the side of the roads as well. This was a very impressive sight. These fires were lit by the farmers making way for the new harvest.
More to come.
We are all safe and pretty excited about our adventure today. Looks like Angkor Wat is on our ‘to do’ list today.
Pictures coming shortly.
