Today, our group of students headed out on the boat to see the floating village. It was an interesting experience to see how people on the river live. The pictures attached to this blog really highlight the living conditions of these people. Shocking to say the least.
Next we headed off to Kampong Thom town, but we stopped long the way to see a Hindu temple buried deep in the forests near Boeng Peae forest. The road was completely unpaved. So this made for a bit of an off road experience with our bus. However, once we got to the historical site we all found ourselves making friendly conversations with a group of local high school students who decided to adopt us for the hour and a half long trek. Some of our students even tried practising their Khmer greetings. Cudo’s to Jane Meng for striking up a conversation with Ja’an, a 13 year old Cambodian high school student who lives in the wooded area near the temple. Ja’an’s English was superb, and she talked about how she is passionate about Khmer history and trekking. She hopes one day to live in Siem Reap and support her family by being a tour guide.
Do we ever have big stories to tell when we get back!
