Tuol Sleng was one of the infamous prisons during the decade of the Khmer Rouge Army. It is now a Genocide museum to help promote world awareness of what Genocide is really all about. The next stop was the infamous Killing Fields. Both of these places were very somber places to walk through and were emotionally difficult for our students. However, they handled the subject matter very well.
I’ve included a few video’s to educate everyone about what is being seen on the ground. As Mr. Mckenzie has stated very clearly, it is very important that we never forget what Cambodia has gone through. This is one of the main reasons why this country is still rebuilding after so many years of abuse and neglect. Along with the carpet bombing by the US, fighting with the Vietnamese, poverty and Genocide; Cambodia is still recovering to this very day. Throughout this trip we were constantly reminded of these obstacles.
Here are video clips from CNN’s “Scream Bloody Murder”.
