“I would come back to this hotel just for the food, not even considering the diving.” This was the comment of one of our students this evening. It’s true, the food has been superb, with a wide selection of culinary delights that have kept our students finishing first plates and having no trouble devouring seconds… and in some cases even thirds (you may have heard of last night’s after-dinner snack – the Filipino delicacy Balut – now before you type that into Google Image search, be aware that this is a fertilized duck egg, and not for the faint of heart. Last night the stouthearted and strong stomached took “experience” week to a whole new level of cultural authenticity. Thanks (I think) to Kelli for organizing with the staff here at the hotel to make this happen.)
It rained on and off on Sunday, but since then we have been experiencing beautiful weather. The sun warmed us and then proved treacherous, burning a few of us, but we would not for that reason wish it away
. Varying shades of color have come upon our pale Macao faces.
Students were tested today and completed their third and fourth open water dives, and at this point we are happy to announce them as PADI certified, Open Water divers (and Advanced Open Water divers for some!). Today we went down to a max depth of 18 meters.
Coming up from an hour under the surface, we hop on the boat for the short cruise back to the resort, and within fifteen minutes of docking at the pier students are flying into the pool for some more playtime in the water.
After three days of diving, learning a whole new skill-set in a new environment, we have some tired faces. Tomorrow there will be optional diving for those who want to continue, and a chance to rest for those who need a break. We’re also looking forward to our excursion to a nearby waterfall on Thursday.
