Our TIS girls had us on the edge of our seats this morning in their playoff game against the host team HIS. This was the team that we played last year for the gold medal and came up short. This was the same team that beat us on Thursday here in Hangzhou. It was an extremely tight and aggressive game with a lot of fouls. Kylisha Kiat came through at the end with a game changing basket. Niki Leonardos showed amazing leadership skills and put the pressure on the whole time. At the end of regulation the game was tied 8-8 and we were forced to head into a 3 minute overtime. The overtime had everyone in the gym in a frenzy!! Verena Tse and Amber Koppelman stepped up when both Niki Leonardos and Kylisha Kiat found themselves fouled out late in the overtime. After 3 minutes the score was still 8-8 and we were forced into a second overtime!!
The crowd was wild for the entire 3 minutes!! Sydney Kern and Kelly Weale showed amazing defense under the net and nothing was getting past them. Both teams were in bonus and there were several missed foul shots by both sides. Late in the second overtime Amber Koppelman was fouled and…sunk both her shots!!! The other team had a chance to tie it up but missed both the shots. Tigers win!!! Final score 10-9.

Girls play for gold right away!!!

"Beat Hangzhou". I remember that mantra from back in September! Great work girls! To beat the home team on their own court…remarkable.
