Despite the daily rain, we have pressed on.
Before leaving Camp Bongkud, students were given a lesson in jungle survival skills. Each group got to practice setting up a hammock with mosquito net and rain cover. Our jungle guide showed us how to make utensils out of bamboo, and prepared a meal of sweet potatoes cooked over the fire inside bamboo.
After saying goodbye to camp Bongkud, we visited a hot spring for a rainforest canopy walk followed by swimming and lounging in the hot springs.
Last night we stayed at a traditional Longhouse at the Sabah Tea Plantation, where students got cleaned-up and were treated to a BBQ. Bedtime was quite the experience, due to the local incets that are larger than some family pets. Thank goodness for mosquito nets! it didn’t take much coaxing to get students to observe lights out because of the little critters that were being attracted to the lamps!
Today we are back in KK, and will head by boat to a local island for swimming.
See you soon!
