31 TIS grade sevens spent yesterday afternoon at the Safari Park in Pingzhou. The cool, rainy weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our group as we explored tropical rain forest and African savannah wildlife environments. Elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, and many other exotic animals, birds, and reptiles were viewed by both passenger train and on foot.
We stayed at the beautiful Chimelong Hotel Monday evening and were wowed by an amazing circus show that was located right across the street from our hotel. The acrobatic performance of the circus stars reminded us of the Cirque de Soleil of Macau, but this show also had many real live animal performers as well.
The huge buffet breakfast we had this morning (Tuesday) was enjoyed while overlooking four very rare white tigers which call our hotel home as well. We have also experienced two international Italian restaurants in two different locations (pasta and pizza always seem popular !) one for dinner last night, and another for lunch today.
Some ancient Chinese history and culture were part of our activities on Tuesday as we visited the excavation of a more than two thousand year old tomb located in what is now modern downtown Guangzhou. The afternoon included a visit to the Chen clan or family temple. Stay tuned tomorrow as we continue to explore Guangzhou and then head off to Shenzhen…….
