Day 4
Today both groups got up and had breakfast together. It must be said…our students LOVE the breakfast in the cafeteria every morning. Eggs, bacon, toast, french bread, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and the Omelette Man!
Group C went to for a morning of farming at the PREM organic farm. They were going to need the produce for their upcoming cooking class. At first I was afraid of potentially eating some our students creations, but the prem people led them in a class of how to cook authentic Thai food. It tasted amazing!
Afterward, the same group spent the afternoon making and decorating umbrellas and lanterns that they will light and set off at tomorrow’s Khantoke dinner
. (As a sidenote, I wanted to paint the hinese characters for “Thailand” (Tai Guo) on my umbrella. I was impressed when Thomas was the one out of the group to teach me how to write it properly!)
Group D set off to the Elephant Nature Park which is a sanctuary to treat abused elephants. It was so eye-opening to see how elephants are so respected but so exploited. Students learnd all about the social structure of the 33 elephants and how they live. Afterwards students got a chance to feed and bath the elephants. It turned into quite the water fight. I think the students got more water on them than the elephants!
That night we all went into town and let the students browse around the night Bazaar to try their hand at Thai bargaining. A full exciting Day!
Day 5
Today the groups switched roles from the previous day. One group went to the elephant nature park, while the other went to do the cooking, farming, and crafts.
Tonight we will have a taditional Khantoke dinner as our farewell. We are really going to miss this place. See you tomorrow!
