This November, TIS sent a touch rugby team to the ACAMIS tournament for the very first time. In only the 3rd year of the sport’s existence at TIS, most of the athletes were young and inexperienced. However, the Tigers were determined to stir things up at their very first international tournament. Playing much older and more experienced squads, the Tigers had to overcome numerous challenges along the way. At the end, pure grit and determination combined with a never-say-die attitude yielded the Tigers a 2-5 record. The last game of the tournament saw veteran Ben Kirkman scoring a game-tying try by navigating his way through a maze of defenders. Grade 10 student Pedro Nunes then won the game for TIS in style by scoring a try with less than 30 seconds left in the game. It was a great learning and building experience for the touch team. Watch out for this group next year, they’re hungry!
