TIS Runners Brave the Cold in Chengdu with Strong Results

Posted on November 21, 2018

Written by Eunice Cordeiro Hoi (Grade 8)

On the 16th of November, our Cross Country team travelled to Chengdu to compete in ACAMIS 2018. The trip started off with Gage sharing homemade, delectable, chewy chocolate chip cookies on the bus. We went to the building with the largest foundation in the world and ate dinner while others did some pre-match shopping. This year we had a lot of people join Cross Country and everyone arrived feeling enthusiastic albeit a little bit nervous. We also came unprepared because almost all of us arrived in shorts and t-shirts. It was nine degrees celsius!

The competition started off with the U15 boy’s race, followed by the U15 girl’s race. Everyone finished really strong with smiles on their faces. This was followed by the U19 boys and U19 girls race. We were the only team out there cheering because by then it was freezing. Harley pushed through with an injured ankle and Pan U was very tenacious, she collapsed but quickly turned over, got up, and kept on jogging.

Overall, our team had a great time and regardless of their results, everyone pushed themselves to the best of their ability.

Post report update:  Pan U finished in 2nd place – this is the best individual finish ever for TIS runners in an ACAMIS event.
