TIS had the pleasure of hosting the ACAMIS Orange Division U19 Basketball Tournament from Jan 24 – 26, 2019. Teams from UlaanBataar, Beijing, Tianjin, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shekou, and Hong Kong descended on Macao for this 3-day event.
The TIS boys team was eager to rebound from a 6th place finish last year but had to face a tough and experienced team from Nanjing in their tournament opener. The Tigers lost that game but their spirits weren’t broken as they came back strong for the rest of the tournament and fought their way into the championship match on Saturday. Of course the title game was against the same Nanjing team they had lost to just 2 days ago. Coming out with fire and intensity, our boys had the lead for most of the game but eventually they succumbed to a very deep Nanjing squad, earning a very deserving silver medal.
On the girls side, the Tigers squad was ready to defend their first place finish from a year ago. In their opener against Hong Kong Academy, it seemed that the girls had lost their dominance, escaping with only a 2-point victory. But as the girls settled their nerves after the first game, they showed the competition that they were definitely the team to beat as they went undefeated for the rest of the tournament. As fate would have it, our girls had to face HKA again in the title game. This time, they exerted their dominance from the opening tip, opening up a lead that HKA would never recover from. When the final buzzer sounded, TIS girls were again ACAMIS champions, a feat they had accomplished for the 3rd time in the past 4 years.
Way to go Tigers!!!
