From May 4-6, 2017, TIS hosted the annual SCISAC U15 Basketball Tournament. Teams from Chongqing, Nanjing, Xiamen, Taichung and Hong Kong embarked on our campus for a hectic weekend of basketball that saw 40 games played, 2 champions crowned, and countless jammed fingers and sprained ankles treated.
The TIS boys team, eager to redeem themselves after a 6th place finish a year ago in Taiwan, forged ahead through round robin, finishing with a 3-2 record, securing a semi-finals berth. The boys had a tough opponent in the semis when they faced off again the number 1 seed NIS. The boys played their hearts out and found themselves in a tie game with only a few minutes to go. But NIS proved to be a very deep team and eventually pulled out the win. Though our boys had to settle for 4th place, the coaches are extremely proud of their efforts and are very much looking forward to what this group of young players can do next year.
On the girls side, it was a story of domination. Having won this event for the past 4 straight years, TIS girls basketball has cemented themselves as a perennial powerhouse in this league. This year was no different, The girls stormed out of the gate and score 73 points in their first round robin game, a SCISAC record! Their dominance continued all weekend as they went undefeated all the way and secured their 5th straight championship after beating HKA in the finals, for the 3rd year in a row.
An amazing accomplishment for both of our teams. Way to go Tigers!
