The senior boys team came into this tournament as defending champs for the last two years. This year however, the boys struggled to find their identity early on. Prior to ACAMIS, they had only won one game. ACAMIS wasn’t any easier as each of their games was incredibly close. However, their hunger and pride was not to be undermined. The boys pulled off a perfect 5-0 round robin finishing as the first seed. The playoffs saw some intense game play with both the semi-final and the championship game going down to the wire. When the dust settled, TIS boys was on top of the ACAMIS basketball world for a 3rd year in a row, beating host ISNS in the gold medal game.
On the girls side, TIS has never won any ACAMIS event ever, in any sport! The girls basketball squad came so close the past two years, but never managed to break this curse. The mostly grade 12s has been on a tear this year, beating every team they played this year prior to ACAMIS.
Their preparation and hard work and their unwavering desire to win ACAMIS was formidable to say the least. From the opening tip of the first game to the final buzzer of the last game, it was total and complete domination. The girls won all 5 round robin games with a average margin of 18 points per game. They breezed through the semi-final with a 28 point pounding of ISNS. The championship game was no different as the girls’ suffocating defense and pin-point shooting brought home the gold with a 25 point trouncing of HIS.
As if winning an ACAMIS gold for the first time ever wasn’t good enough for these girls, they also picked up the Sportsmanship trophy (voted by their competitors) at the awards ceremony!
What a fantastic weekend for TIS athletics!!! The coaches could not be more proud of these amazing young people. We continue to be impressed by their dedication, teamwork, intensity, and work ethic! All we can say is wow….
