Our middle school boys and girls soccer teams touched down in Nanjing on October 31 for the 2018 SCISAC Soccer tournament. Coming in as two time defending champs, the boys side were eager to repeat their success of the past. But with a young team this year, the boys knew they had their work cut out for them. The girls squad was also full of young players competing for the first time this year and were hoping to improve on their 3rd place finish from a year ago.
Throughout the round robin, both teams fought tooth and nail for every goal. The competition was tough but the Tigers did not relent. After the dust had settled, the girls team finished in 5th place and the boys were in the semi-finals against HKA.
In a statement win, TIS got past HKA with a 4-1 win and found themselves in the championship game against XIS. Even though our boys grossly out-shot the Dolphins from Xiamen with a margin of about 20-2, none of the shots could find the back of the net. The 1 goal scored by XIS made the difference as our boys had to settle for second place.
Although disappointed, the boys knew they could hold their heads up high as they had done their best. The coaches are extremely proud of both teams for what they had accomplished at this year’s tournament. Both squads are already looking ahead to next year’s tournament which will be hosted at home by TIS!
Go Tigers!
