Mandarin

All students from PreK to Grade 9 take Mandarin lessons based on their ability.

The TIS Chinese Language program provides daily Chinese classes to help students develop their communicative skills. The program aims to cultivate students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills as well as enhance their cultural understanding and awareness.

Students from PK to SK learn Chinese in a play-based environment and develop their daily communication skills. The basic concepts of Chinese language, such as Pinyin and Chinese characters are introduced in kindergarten to develop their language awareness.

All students from Grade 1 to Grade 9 take Chinese lessons based on their language proficiency level. Students in the first language classes learn traditional characters while students in the foreign language classes learn simplified characters. In high school, students may continue their Chinese studies if desired. In grade 11 and 12, students may take Chinese as one of their IBDP subjects.
