It’s hard to believe that we have come to the end of another school year! The bulletin boards are being taken down, students are studying or writing final exams, lost textbooks and library books are being found (I hope!), mysterious objects covered in mold are being removed from lockers, yearbook have been distributed and parents are searching the lost and found for the plethora of lost uniforms, bags, water bottles and retainers.
Share experiences and stories of the past year
Ask your children about their favourite memory from the past year. What was their most challenging project? How did they grow this year? While looking through the yearbook, remember the field trips and adventures, the crazy dress down days, the new friends that were made and the friends that moved away. A report card is a necessary tool for reporting how a student is performing within the Alberta curriculum, but a report card will not adequately communicate the excitement, the laughter and the challenges of the past year. Be sure to ask questions about your child’s experiences this past year.
Build on a Love for Learning
The summer is not a time to stop learning. If anything, the summer provides a great opportunity to build on a love for learning. While on vacation, take some time to find out about the history and unique culture of the area. Learn a new skill like archery, running, making crafts, surfing, kayaking, scrap-booking, blogging, cooking, chess, or photography. Hand-write a letter to a distant friend or family member. Unplug (at least for a while). Make sure everyone in your family is reading something for fun! A teacher’s greatest accomplishment is to ignite an unquenchable passion for learning in a student.
Thank you for a Wonderful 2013-14
