Meet our student teachers Corissa, Cassidy and Lori who are all finishing their teaching practicum at our school. Time is flying by as they have already been at TIS for 4 weeks. They have not only been gaining experience with their mentors, but also sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge in learning with our students. We’re so happy they chose us as their final placement before commencing their careers as educators.
Hi! My name is Corissa Tymafichuk and I am so excited to be completing my student teaching practicum at TIS. I’m from St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, a city just outside of Edmonton. I have a passion for both travel and education, so teaching at The International School is a perfect fit for me. I am studying Secondary Education at the University of Alberta, with a major in English and a minor in French. I love to learn languages as much as I love to teach them; I also know Spanish and took Mandarin classes last summer. I am so happy to be in Macao and at TIS, and am grateful for the opportunity!
Mrs. Brockbank is my mentor teacher during my placement at TIS. I have taken over teaching all of her classes: Grade 7 and 8 English Language Learning (ELL), and 10/20/30 Academic Literacy Skills Development (ALSD). In addition to that, I am leading her Grade 11 Homeroom and TAP. I am also assisting with the secondary drama production after school.
I am loving living in Macao! I’ve been enjoying the chance to explore the city, and so far one of my favourite areas is Old Taipa Village. I find it fun to live in a tall apartment building, and I like that I can walk to school, to restaurants, and basically to anywhere I want to go.
In my spare time I love to read, watch Netflix, and hang out with my friends. At home I have 2 puppies, so I also spend a lot of time playing with them! Secret talents? I am pretty stellar at rapping! Give me any rap song and I can memorize and rap it right away.
Hi! I’m Cassidy Yasinski. I grew up in Manning, which is a super small town in northern Alberta that has a total population less than that of the TIS school community! As a student of the University of Alberta, I am here to complete my final teaching placement. I am working with Amy Clack in Grade 7, teaching Math and Science, and will be here at TIS until mid-April. I absolutely love what I’ve seen of Macao so far, and walking through Old Taipa has been one of my favourites! I have a variety of hobbies, most of which are related to the outdoors, such as camping, fishing, and boating with my family. I’m also interested in sports and fitness, and have a passion for agriculture. I’m beyond excited to be here in Macao and at TIS! A huge thanks goes out to all of you, the incredible staff and students, for welcoming me into your school!
Hi, I’m Lori. I’m a student teacher from the University of Alberta, with a major in Social Studies and a minor in ESL. I will be with Mr. Jefferson’s Grade 9 Social Studies class and Mr. Dunn’s Grade 11 English Language Arts and ESL class till the end of April. China is my home country, so it feels familiar and also exciting to teach in Macao. It is lovely to walk around and try different amazing restaurants in Macao. I feel lucky to do my practicum at TIS, being surrounded by amazing powerful teachers who are passionate about teaching internationally. English is my second language, so I have struggled with the process of learning English just as some of the students here. I hope that my experience will help me to be a good support and assist them in terms of learning. In my free time back in Canada, I love eating Dominion pizzas, so eating can be counted as one of my hobbies. I also have been taking boxing classes and contemporary dance classes throughout my university years for fun and for getting rid of fat from overeating pizza. I don’t have any secret talents, but I do have my deepest embarrassing secret, which is I still don’t know how to ride a bike.
