Congratulations to Marketing and Management students Yasmin, Nikki and Dominic for taking home first place in the Canadian Commemorative Ceremony 2016 Logo Contest with the Consulate General of Canada’s office in Hong Kong. Three other international schools also competed in the logo design contest, including the Canadian International School of Hong Kong, Christian Alliance International School and the Delia School of Canada.
Three teams in Ms Wilson’s Marketing and Management class all designed a logo for the competition, but only one was chosen as the official submission from TIS. The Consulate General of Canada selection panel then chose a winning logo from among the designs submitted by each of the four schools.
Nikki, Dominic and Yasmin had this to say about their concept , “75 is the focal point of our logo. We wanted to highlight the 75th anniversary of Canada’s defence of Hong Kong in the Battle of Hong Kong. By using the flags of Hong Kong and Canada it demonstrates the connection between these two allies. The dove is to symbolize peace.”
Members of the selection panel had much praise for our TIS students and their logo design:
“The design clearly indicates the theme of the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Hong Kong and the designer has wisely fitted in two flags in the design to show the bond between these regions.”
“The strengths of the design are that it is a very robust and solid image, the 75 years of the anniversary stands out immediately, and the visual linking of the Hong Kong and Canada iconic images – in the same colour – represents the relationship strongly. The modernity of the design emphasizes how much both countries have come together since that trying period. It’s a fitting ‘brand’ for the occasion.”
“This design is my pick. It really stands out. It has strong ties between Canada and Hong Kong as well as emphasizing the 75. The bold colours and outline mean it will stand out no matter where it appears.”
“This design is very colourful, and boldly depicts the figure ‘75’. The Canadian Maple leaf is very clearly displayed and the Dove of Peace is unmistakable.”
The logo will appear on the official program for the Canadian Commemorative Ceremony which will be held on Dec 4 at Sai Wan Cemetery in Hong Kong. Ms Wilson, Nikki, Dominic and Yasmin have all been invited to the ceremony, where they will be recognized by the Consul General of Canada, Jeff Nankivell.
