Congratulations to Hilda Chan, Phoebe Ma (both Grade 6) and Vivian Ng (Grade 12), for defeating some very tough competition at the 17th Macao-wide English Speech Contest & 24th “21st Century” National English Speaking Competition Macao Regional Contest, last weekend. All three students impressed the judges with their performances in the semi-finals and will now advance to the finals on November 10 & 11th. The annual competition is organised by the Macao Polytechnic Institute to encourage people from all walks of life to learn English, and to promote English language teaching.
Hilda and Phoebe were both coached by ELL Teacher Mr. Carmine Cesario. Upon hearing the wonderful news, Mr. Cesario said “First I would like to thank all the students who participated in the event, they put in a lot of work and showed a lot of courage to give a speech in English in front of teachers and fellow students. Good luck to the winners Hilda and Phoebe, they deserve all the best based on their efforts, enthusiasm and dedication.”
High school teacher, Mr Ryan Dunn who coached Vivian, was proud and impressed with Vivian’s performance, “I can say that this speech competition is very competitive and quite challenging. It is also very impressive that Vivian was able to meet the challenges set before her considering, as a Grade 12 student, she has so many other endeavours that she is partaking in. That being said, she did put in a superb effort in creating an excellent, well-focused speech and honing her speech giving skills to ensure her presentation was top notch. I am confident that she is going to do brilliantly at the finals and I look forward to seeing her forthcoming successes.”
Good luck to Hilda, Phoebe and Vivian in the competition finals!
