TIS Students Pay Tribute to Canada’s Fallen Soldiers

Posted on December 5, 2016

A group of TIS secondary students represented our school at the Canadian Commemorative Ceremony held on Sunday, December 4th at Sai Wan Cemetery in Hong Kong.

The event is held annually to pay homage to the 228 Canadian soldiers who died during the Battle of Hong Kong in December of 1941. Inclusive Education Coordinator Karine Estadieu and her children Sarah (Gr. 11) and Danael (Gr. 8) laid a wreath at the cenotaph on behalf of TIS. Sarah also read the French version of the Prayer of Remembrance.

Marketing and Management Teacher Ms Wilson accompanied two other Gr. 11 students to the ceremony, Yasmin Marques and Dominic Telhado Lobo. They received a plaque for their winning logo design which commemorates the 75th anniversary of Canada’s defence of Hong Kong. The logo was chosen by the Consulate General selection panel from among designs submitted by four different Canadian schools.  The logo appeared on the event program as well as the Consulate’s Facebook page.
