The 2015 results for the Programme for International Students Assessment, PISA, have once again given TIS another reason to celebrate! This round of testing included 65 participating countries and more than half a million students with results in the three areas of Mathematics, Science and Reading. TIS students have once again proven that they are more than capable of competing with the best in the world. Check out our results here.
Our Mathematical achievements are simply outstanding! Singapore was the only participating country that managed to outperform TIS students in this subject area! Second place on the world stage of Mathematics is no easy feat and demonstrates that the Alberta curriculum, combined with our locally adjusted context, produces world class results.
“TIS is occasionally criticized as having a less rigorous math program than other local schools. It isn’t less rigorous, but it is different. Our program emphasizes critical thinking, deep understanding and effective problem solving. These results are proof that our program is one of the best in the world.” stated Head of School, Howard Stribbell. “Our students and teachers should take great pride in this achievement.”
Science results also provided us with a strong showing with a world ranking of eighth (8th). This places us in front of our Hong Kong neighbours (10th) and well ahead of some notable and top performing countries such as Germany, Sweden and South Korea.
Reading was the final area of assessment and once again,TIS students demonstrated their academic prowess with a world ranking of tenth (10th). This positioned us ahead of Guided Reading Programme pioneers, New Zealand, along with eight of the ten most literate countries in the world.
We are incredibly proud of our students at TIS and these results have truly given us a place of pride within the world rankings. We will now take these outcomes and examine them for areas where we can provide even further academic growth and development for our already exceptional students. Well done!
