TIS will be offering a series of educational workshops for teachers through its newly formed Early Childhood Education Academy.
The academy was created to provide professional development opportunities for teachers and teaching assistants to share best practices in early childhood education.
“We are very excited to be launching this important new initiative and believe the Early Childhood Education Academy will provide educators working in Macau with an opportunity to meet face-to-face to learn and share ideas for engaging children in meaningful learning experiences,” says Head of School Howard Stribbell.
The academy workshops will provide modular based, hands-on learning that focuses on relevant topics to help educators meet the diverse learning needs of early years children.
The first module to be offered, Play-Based Learning – Creating Reggio Emelia-inspired Classrooms, will take place over three days at TIS on Wed, Sept 21 from 4-6 pm, Sat, Sept 24 from 9 am to 12 noon and Wed, Sept 28 from 4-6 pm. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of play-based learning and will leave with many practical ideas to help them create an inspiring classroom that is conducive to learning through play.
The second module in the series, Play-Based Learning – Creating Thoughtful and Productive Learning Activities, will be offered on Nov 30, Dec 3 & 7.
The workshop facilitator is Karen Holmes, who has been the Kindergarten Division Coordinator at TIS for the past seven years. She has more than twenty years of teaching experience as a kindergarten teacher and early literacy and numeracy specialist.
