As with many of our TIS graduates, Draco Wyn Mya (Class of 2014) is attending university overseas. He’s enrolled at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia studying General Medicine, a 6 year program that will award him the title MuDR which is short form for “Medicinae Universae Doctor.” We caught up with Draco recently to find out what he’s been up to.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced at university and in medical school so far?
The biggest challenge is definitely the level of studies as the biology and anatomy standards are very different from what you learn in high school.
What are your best memories of TIS and in what ways do you think the school prepared you for university?
My best memories of TIS are of course hanging around my friends, biology class and the different activities such as Halloween or Christmas. The school prepared me to study efficiently and pay attention by ear since it’s almost impossible to take notes in university due the speed of the professors’ teachings.
What advice would you give to the grade 12 students who will be going to university next year?
Don’t procrastinate as procrastination in high school is doable whereas in university, you have to study almost everyday.
What are your plans going forward?
I will be finishing my General Medicine here at Comenius University in Bratislava and will go for a specialization in cardiac surgery in the United Kingdom.
