We have received exciting news from Water for South Sudan’s Executive Director, Lynn Malooly, that WFSS has drilled the well sponsored by TIS Macao. The well is in the village of Rumkuel in Lacdiit, Buoiyar, South Sudan. The Village Chief is Kuei Akol Madut. The GPS coordinates of the well are N: 08′ 09′ 870″ E: 28′ 17′ 263″.
It is most humbling to know that our school in the tiny city of Macao has been able to assist in providing fresh clean water to a village on the other side of the globe. Through the generosity and support of our school community, we have helped the people of Rumkuel, South Sudan into a new future safe from water borne diseases.
Although the school reached its goal within the first half of the school year, fundraising continued throughout the second semester. Below is Mr. Stuebing’s update on the donations and the AIR program.
Update : 2019 End-of-Year Donations to Water for South Sudan
– Dennis L. Stuebing, Ph.D, (CAS, Experience Week, & Service Co-ordinator)
Even though TIS exceeded its fundraising goal for this year’s Activist-in-Residence program (AIR) in January, students and teachers have continued to bring to life the school’s mission as socially responsible life-long learners making positive change in our global community by fundraising on behalf of Water for South Sudan. With thanks to Mrs. Alm and the Middle School Leadership Club, Ms. Mak and Student Council, the Grade 5 teachers and students, Ms. Doland, and Ms. Morbey, TIS will disburse an additional 10,125MOP (approx. $1250 USD) to the organisation created by Salva Dut, to provide “access to clean, safe water and improving hygiene and sanitation practices”. In response to the additional fundraising results, Head of School, Mark Lockwood said, “It is outstanding to see the TIS community continuing to support an organisation working to assist people in need. I can’t wait until we launch AIR in the 2019-20 school year. I expect it will be as meaningful of an opportunity for our entire community as this year’s program has proven to be”. Thanks to all of the students, parents. teachers, and TIS partners who participated in AIR 2018 and supported Water for South Sudan.
