It was a fun and action packed day of Chinese New Year celebrations at TIS! The day kicked off with a traditional lion dance performed by our very own secondary students.
Students and parents were treated to a variety of wonderful performances such as a kung fu demonstration, Erhu (Chinese Violin), electric piano ensemble, a clown act, acrobatics, a magic show and the ever-popular face changing act, which left many kids in awe of the art.
Performances were followed by various fun indoor and outdoor activities like lantern painting, Chinese tea ceremony, stilt-walking, safety bow, jumping ball, shadow game, face painting and many others.
There were also Chinese craftsmen selling their handmade creations, dough figurines, woven straw, paper cutting, and Chinese knots.
Neil Johnston, a founding governor of TIS and the first principal of the school made a special appearance at the Chinese New Year Celebration. Mr. Stribbell presented him with a plaque in appreciation of his many years of dedication and service to TIS.
Many thanks to: Ms Helen Ku and the Mandarin teachers who did an amazing job of organizing the carnival, the TIS faciliity crew and volunteers for setting up, students who took the time to rehearse and perform at the carnival, and TISPA for providing the popcorn!
