TIS Celebrates Phase II Topping Out Ceremony

Posted on July 8, 2016

There was a festive feel in the air today as the construction company building Phase II held a topping out ceremony to mark the completion of the roof as well as the entire concrete structure that makes up the five story building.

The event was organized by Ming Shun Construction and was attended by Head of School Howard Stribbell, TIS Board of Governors Real Hryhirchuk and K.L. Tong, Sam Kuan from MUST, TIS Office Manager Susan Lao, the architects of Phase II and the many construction managers and workers who are currently working on the project.

The ceremony included traditional rites such as the burning of joss sticks and paper money and the lighting of fire crackers. Three suckling pigs were also given as an offering. These rites are meant to appease the spirits that are believed to inhabit the site and ensure the rest of the construction is safe and smooth running.

A number of elements of Phase II construction remain, such as interior and exterior finish and most mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
