After three years of development, The International School of Macao (TIS) is pleased to announce it has received International Baccalaureate (IB) World School status for the Diploma Programme. The 2017-18 school year will include the first cohort of students concurrently enrolling into Grade 11 of their Alberta High School Diploma. IB will provide TIS students with another opportunity for ‘Knowledge to Know No Bounds’.
“The IB Diploma Program is an excellent addition to the TIS Advantage and will work well with the Alberta High School Diploma to further prepare students for success at universities around the world.” says Head of School Howard Stribbell.
The IB Learner Profile guides students to be inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. In addition to its six subject groups, the IB Diploma Program will provide TIS students with the multidisciplinary course, Theory of Knowledge (TOK); specific emphasis on Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS); and the Extended Essay.
TIS will continue to provide its accredited Canadian curriculum to all of its students. Students in the IB programme will graduate with an Alberta High School Diploma and an IB Diploma or certificate. “We are very excited about the interest level already expressed in the first year of the program. There are only a few seats still available.” says Secondary Principal Chris Coates.
IB Diploma Programme Coordinator and Academic Counselor Jody Hubert adds, “100% of TIS graduates get direct university admissions offers. The addition of the IB program will further prepare our students for studying in university and for lifelong learning.”
The IB was founded in 1968 and in addition to DP has the Primary Years, Middle Years, and Career-Related Programmes. More information about the IB and DP can be found here.
The International School of Macao (TIS) was established in 2002 on the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) campus. Since then its student population has grown to 1200. In 2017, TIS expanded to a second phase on MUST campus. More information about TIS can be found here.
