Did you know that one in every six people in the world celebrate Chinese New Year?! Customs vary in different parts of the world but mostly, it’s a time to bring family together and to wish everyone peace and prosperity in the coming year.
The Year of the Goat will be on Feb 19th, but at TIS today, the celebrations started early! Students watched a variety of special performances including a traditional Dragon dance (by TIS students!) and even a magic show. Following the program, students visited different booths where they were able to make Chinese lanterns, enjoy a Chinese tea ceremony and have some fun with shadow puppetry. They also watched craftsmen make delicious sweet treats and sampled some homemade Chinese dumplings.
Many thanks to Ms. Helen Ku and all of the Mandarin teachers who worked very hard for many months to prepare for the event. Thanks also to the students who helped with the festivities and to the student performers. Kung Hei Fat Choy!
